Among the most important, impressive and rich of water is the aqueduct of Marcia it was started in 144 a.c by magistrate Quinto Marcio Re. It also comes from the high valle of Aniene and it does not come from a river, but from an abondant souce and it is considered the best due to it's quality and purity. Old Plinio (born Hist. XXXI, 41) defined aqua Marcia - celebrated universally as the best water that arrives to Rome- clarissima aquarum omnium - like "a gift made from herbs from the gods". For it's purity it is advised to mix with wine (according to antic tradition). The poem writer Tibullo compared effect and taste, with the company of Ninfe he was able to give veng of old Bacco in love.
The source of Marcia is found in the height of XXXVI mile of the via Valeria, near an alternative road which divide from the road from right.(else, with another point of reference at the height of the XXXVIII mile of via Sublacensis, correspond to 60.5 km of the actual Sublacense, even in this case with the alternative road , to the left): it deals with the water that belong to the group of called Serene (and , in particular is called the "Second Serena") in the area of the lake of Santa Lucia, near Marano Equo, between Arsoli and Agosta , is where to get Marcia 's aqueduct nowadays. The water are collected in a basin and it is very cold and one time Nero (the story was told by Tacito , Year. XIV, 22),one summer he decided to dived to swim and for a while he almost got syncope. The length of the aqueduct was 61,710 feet, more or less equal to 91 km; for 54,247 yd. (about 80km) for the rest it was underground, 7463 yd.(about 11 km) on the surface, sustained by the surface structure and particularly by the arch, it is also used by Aqueduct of Giulia and Tepula. The container has the second biggest capacity in antic Rome. At the time of Imperials the capacity of Marcia can increase adding the water coming from other source discovered by the time of Augusto (Fons Augustus or Fons Albudinus), about a kilometer (800 feet) from the origin and today called Rosoline, they also used Claudia's water.

The way to Aqueduct of Marcio is to follow the right edge of Aniene and then to San Cosimato, above it is Viscovo, a bridge passing to the left, going to Anio Vetus ( it is constructed in a lower level ) in a certain point the water duct Claudia and Anio Novus is at the same level over passing the height of Valle Empolengna ,with another bridge - Arch's Bridge - with the restoration of Agusteo it remained arch, in the upper part of the via Castel Madama, going to Tivoli. Therefore, it avoided monti Tiburtini going around it, like what Aniene Vecchio have done. (Claudia and Aniene Nuovo also did the same), and the way going to Via Prenistina and Gericomio , passing the hill of Gericomio with amazing series of bridges, it still change due to conservation (Bridge of Sant Peter in the Valley of Mola, Bridge of :Lupo on the ditch of Acquarossa Ponte, Bridge on the ditch of Caipoli, Bridge of Bulica), and everything sited above turns back in the underground.

After avoiding the hill of Albani on the side of Capannelle, pointing stright to Rome, going out on the surface, VII miles to Via Latina in the zone of Casale of old Rome where you can find piscinae limariae. From here it continue in the curve square opera of Tufo. (later it is also used from Tepula and Giulia)until "Seranza Vecchia ", in the zone of Porta Maggiore. Therefore following the way of Mura Aureliane (in which it was included until Porta Tiburtina), continuing along the actual Via Marsala to arrive to the "castle" the terminal, in which it should be found immediately to the the Porta Collina of the republican wall, which is today the Minister of Finance, in via Venti Settembre. From here the numerous "castles" it is secondarily is secondarily irrigated from 9 or 10 of the 14 urban region.
